Welcome
to the Website of Historical Features and Photos which is operated by
John Norris, a long established writer and author of books relating to
all aspects of military history, particularly weaponry. John Norris is
perhaps best known for his feature coverage of historical re-enactment
events which are published in several leading military history magazines,
including Gun Mart. He has on many occasions directly participated in
battle re-enactments involving re-enactment groups, which has allowed
him to obtain a unique insight into the staging of such events. By working
closely together with various re-enactment groups John Norris has been
able to develop his own style of on-the-spot reporting and build up a
working relationship with groups as diverse as Ancient Greeks through
to the Cold War period.

John Norris has travelled extensively
for a number of years in order to see at first hand the high quality being
set by the many historical re-enactment groups. With an ever-increasing
diversity of historical periods being interpreted by re-enactors, John
Norris has been able to write a lucid series of ongoing features aimed
at reporting on the activities and developments within the world of historical
interpretation and also raise public awareness to this fact.
This same level of excellence within re-enactment groups has been recognised
by film and television companies. In fact, John Norris has been able to
utilise his experience and knowledge of military history to work as an
historical researcher and adviser to the film and television industry.
Combined with his working relationship with re-enactors he is able to
offer film and documentary production units a comprehensive service to
assist in a wide range of subject matters, including film locations.
John Norris recognises the full worth of re-enactors in helping to recreate
history, which, in turn, allows him to use images of these groups to illustrate
magazine features and other historical works. The periods covered range
from ancient Greeks through to the Second World War and into the post
war period. These images are frequently used to illustrate different works
looking at military history. Should a request be made to photograph something
of a specific nature, then a special commission can be arranged.
